Cantata Choir Coming to Emmanuel

We are delighted to announce that the much-loved Cantata Choir will lead our Sung Eucharist on Sunday 1st June at 10:15am. It will be the choir’s 12th visit to Béthanie and their annual visit is always eagerly anticipated. Choir members are alumni from the Ebenezer School for the visually impaired in Pokfulam. It is hoped as many parishioners as possible will be able to come to Emmanuel to support the singers. As well as lead our hymn singing, the Cantata Choir will also perform three Christian songs, two in Cantonese and one in English.  All Welcome!

A Prayer for the Philippines

Following the recent devastating typhoon in the Philippines, a special prayer for the country’s people has been prepared by the Catholic Archdiocese of Manila. It will be prayed in St John’s Cathedral and her three daughter churches at every service this week. We encourage you to use it as part of your own devotions over coming days.

God, our Father, in faith, we acknowledge your care for us, your children. In hope, we trust in your divine providence of giving us wisdom and courage as we face the challenges of life.

In love, we invoke your help and guidance during these difficult days of death and destruction in our land.

Grant eternal peace to those who lost their lives. Embrace the children who died in their innocence. Help those who are hurt and cure those who are sick.

Encourage those who suffer the destruction of their homes and properties, and to rise from the ruins and rebuild their future.

Bless all those who extend their  helping hand to those in need of food, shelter and clothing, who share their resources with others.

At your command the wind and the seas obey, raise your hand Almighty God and spare us from other natural disasters and devastations. Teach us to be responsible stewards of your creation. At this time of crisis, move us to share more and to love more.

We pray this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

A special prayer for the people of Japan

following the earthquake and tsunami centred on Sendai that occurred on Friday 11 March 2011.

Prayer HandsO loving Creator,
bring healing and hope to our struggling brothers and sisters on earth.
We pray for all in Japan who grieve, suffer pain,
or whose homes have been destroyed by the earthquake and tsunami.
We remember those who have died and pray for those who mourn their deaths.
May your compassion, O God, calm troubled hearts and shelter anxious souls.
We dare to hope that through the generosity of the privileged,
the destitute might find warmth and life again,
and those who despair might glimpse hope.
We make our prayer through our Saviour Christ
who defeated death and reigns with you in glory.

A special prayer for the people of New Zealand

following the earthquake that occurred in Christ Church on Tuesday 22 February 2011.

Prayer HandsGod of consolation
grant to the people of Christchurch
the spirit of faith and courage to rebuild their lives.
May they have the strength to meet the days to come
with steadfastness and patience,
not sorrowing without hope
but clinging to your goodness and love,
through Jesus Christ who is the resurrection and the life.
